Go, go Godzilla: Matsui's two homers power Yanks to series win
Sunday, August 23, 2009
Yankees 8 10 2
Red Sox 4 9 0
WP: Sabathia (15-7)
LP: Beckett (14-5)
PLAYER OF THE GAME: Well with that headline, it's kind of obvious its Hideki Matsui. He hit two home runs for the second time in 3 games. Nobody was on base, so he only got 2 RBI's instead of 7.
PLAY OF THE GAME: Melky Cabrera's catch at the wall on a ball off the bat of Kevin Pukelis in the 8th inning. The Boston crowd pulled a pretty good Michael Kay impression by yelling over that hit.
TURNING POINT OF THE GAME: Teixeira's RBI single in the 3rd to break the 2-2 tie and set up A-Rod's RBI groundout that gave the Yanks a 4-2 lead.
GAME NOTES:
- I know what you're thinking and, yes, Godzilla by Blue Oyster Cult is a song.
- Derek Jeter's home run in the first inning was his 21st leadoff home run of his career, tying for second on the Yankees all-time list with Alfonso Soriano. The leader is Ricky Henderson with 24.
- Matsui on the series: 4-15, 4 HR's, 9 RBI's.
- Yankees record in August: 15-5.
- Yankees record since Michael Kay's Successors began blogging: 48-25. That's a .658 winning percentage. And, yes, we're taking full credit for the good play.
We'll try to get some sort of post up. It's a busy time of year with both of us going off to school.
SEE YA!
