New and Notes

  • As we mentioned yesterday, A.J Burnett was suspended 6 games for throwing at Nelson Cruz. He will appeal the suspension, so hopefully the league will knock a game off so A.J isn't thrown off his program too much.
  • Across town, J.J. Putz is the latest injured Met. He would be the Mets 8th player to be on the DL. The Buffalo Bisons will take on the Washington Nationals tonight at 7 at Nationals Park.
  • Kevin Pukilis's calf is bothering him, just in time for the Yankees to come into town next week. Can he try to avoid another Joba start like he did last time?
  • Former Indians owner Dick Jacobs has passed away at the age of 83. He is the namesake of their stadium, Jacobs Field. I know they call it Progressive Field, but, to me, it will always be Jacobs Field the same way U.S. Cellular Field will always be Comiskey Park.
  • Just when the Rangers were getting good, President George W. Bush is considering buying the Rangers back from Tom Hicks, as SI's Jon Heyman says in this notebook.
