Three Yankees Selected to All-Star Game
Sunday, July 5, 2009
Derek Jeter, Mariano Rivera, and Mark Teixeira will be representing the Bronx Bombers at the Mid-Summer Classic this year in St. Louis. It is Jeter and Rivera's 10 time being selected to the All-Star Game. This will be Teixeira's second appearance.
Derek Jeter was the overall leading vote-getter, securing his starting spot at shortstop. Jeter is hitting .316 with 10 home runs and 34 RBI. He also has 17 stolen bases.
Teixeira was in a tight battle with nemesis Kevin Youkilis, but once again the good guy prevails thanks to the support of Yankee fans everywhere. Teixeira is hitting .278 with 20 home runs and 61 RBI. Once again, we pushed the fans to go out and vote for Tex so we'd like to take some credit as well. As they announced Tex was the starter at the game today the fans gave him a nice ovation, and of course someone shouted "Youkilis Sucks!" It brought a smile to my face.
Rivera was selected by the player's to serve in the AL bullpen. Mo has 22 saves this season, including becoming the second person to record his 500th save. Rivera is 1-2 with a 2.60 ERA and has 42 strikeouts compared to just 3 walks.
Teixeira has said he will NOT be participating in the Home Run Derby.
Here is the rest of the AL and NL All Stars.

I'm pretty pumped about Teix winning out...especially after how the season started.
Yeah, that tear he went on in May was ridiculous. But only thing that bothers me is he hasn't done much of late, but he's still got the numbers and anytime a yankee beats a red sock in anything its always an exciting moment.
