Won't get fooled again: Posada's bizarre night at the plate helps Yanks down O's

Wednesday, September 2, 2009

Yankees 9 12 1
Orioles 6 13 1

WP: Marte (1-1)
LP: Ray (0-3)
S: Rivera (38)

PLAYER OF THE GAME: Jorge Posada. While he may have had a few brain farts when it came to the count, the backstop still went 2-4 with 2 home runs and 3 RBI's. I'm sure whatever problems Burnett and Posada may or may not be having are a overlooked when Jorge has a night at the plate like he did tonight.

PLAY/TURNING POINT OF THE GAME: The back-to-back, belly-to-belly home runs from Nick Swisher and Eric Hinske in the 7th that gave the Yankees their go-ahead runs.

GAME NOTES:

  • The Yankees magic number is now 26.
  • Damaso Marte since his return: 3.1 IP, 3 K, 1 BB, O R, 1 Win. (yet, he still has an ERA over 9)
  • Swisher's home run was his 20th on the road this season, while only having 3 at Yankee Stadium despite the fact I could hit a home run to right field at the new Ballpark in the Bronx.
  • The Yankees are a season-high 36 games over .500, and are 33-11 since the All-Star Break.
  • Burnett has been absolutely dreadful since that masterpiece against the Red Sox, so maybe he needs to crank up the adrenaline a little bit.
That's it for tonight, for John Healy, I'm Jim Geant saying...

SEE YA!
