WP:Pettitte (14-7)
LP: Byrd (1-3)
S: Rivera (44)

PLAYER OF THE GAME: There was no real stand-out performance by a player, so this will go to the skipper Joe Girardi. Today, he clinched his first division title, and took the first step to reaching his real mission, the World Series Championship.

PLAY OF THE GAME: Melky Cabrera's home run in the 3rd inning that cut Boston's lead in in half.

TURNING POINT OF THE GAME:
Hideki Matsui's 2-run single in the 6th inning that gave the Yanks the lead.

GAME NOTES:
  • This is the 16th division title in Yankees history. For those of you that don't know, they haven't crowned division titles for the entire history of Major League Baseball, so that's why that number might seem low.
  • Now there are three goals for the rest of the season: 1) Stay healthy 2) rest the regulars and 3) Line up the rotation.
  • I don't want to sound cocky, but if I were you, I wouldn't spend the money on the AL East Division Champion hat and t-shirt, because this team is destined for great things.
