Rays 1 6 0
Yankees 11 17 0

WP: Burnett (11-8)
LP: Sonnanstine (6-9)

PLAYER OF THE GAME: Mark Teixeira went 3-4 with two home runs and four RBI's, pacing the Bombers to a huge offensive outburst.

PLAY OF THE GAME: There wasn't anything special defensively that I saw, so I'm gonna just give it to Tex's two homers.

TURNING POINT OF THE GAME: Pretty safe to say that the game was a lot different after the 8-run 3rd inning. The Yanks sent 13 hitters to the plate and recorded 8 hits.

GAME NOTES:

  • With this win, the Yankees take a 9 game lead over the Red Sox for the division lead. The Magic Number is now 16.
  • Derek Jeter went hitless in both games, so he did not gain any ground on Lou Gehrig.
  • The Yankees are 37-22 against the AL East, including an 8-5 record against the Rays.
TOMORROW:
Yankees vs. Rays
Gaudin vs. Price
