Yankees 6 14 1
Blue Jays 4 4 1

WP: Pettitte (13-6)
LP: Cecil (6-4)
S: Hughes (3)

PLAYER OF THE GAME: Robinson Cano with his 3-4 afternoon. He homered and scored 2 runs on the day.

PLAY/TURNING POINT OF THE GAME: Mark Teixeira's home run in the 5th inning that gave the Yankees the lead before singles by A-Rod and Posada gave the Yanks some breathing room in the next inning.

GAME NOTES:

  • I didn't actually catch any of this game, cause I was at the Carrier Dome watching the Orange take on the Minnesota Gophers. Syracuse lost 23-20 in overtime.
  • The Yankees are 5-1 on this road trip that ends tomorrow. The Bombers have compiled a 42-29 record on the road. Not bad, but they still should push for home-field advantage for the playoffs.
  • Phil Hughes has been living up to the Philthy nickname: 0 runs since August 4 at Toronto. That translates to 11 games and 10 innings. Over that span, he has allowed 5 hits and 3 walks while striking out 17.
  • Pettitte is undefeated in his last 8 starts. He is 5-0 with a 2.77 ERA over that stretch.
  • Jeter picked up 2 hits and is now 7 hits shy of passing Lou Gehrig for first place on the Yankees All-Time hit list.
  • The University of Michigan has a back-up quarterback named David Cone. No word yet on whether Michael Kay has discussed the possibility of him throwing a Football Perfect Game (a passer rating of 158.3).
TOMORROW:
Yankees at Blue Jays
Mitre vs Tallet
