Little Big League: Yankees 8 Royals 2

Tuesday, September 29, 2009

WP:Gaudin (6-10)
LP: Hochevar (7-12)

PLAYER OF THE GAME: This can easily go to Robinson Cano, but let's give it to the guy who hit his first career home-run: Ramiro Pena. Pena hit a solo home run in the 5ht inning to give the Yankees a 2-1 lead.

PLAY/TURNING POINT OF THE GAME: Here is where Cano will get his credit. Cano's grand slam in the 7th inning gave the Yankees an 8-2 lead and put the Royals down. It was his second career grand slam.

GAME NOTES:
--Cano's grand slam was also his 25th home-run of the year, making him the fifth Yankee with at elast 25 home runs this year, setting a franchise record.
--Chad Gaudin really wants to pitch in Ocotber and Girardi will have to make a tough decision on which pitchers he will carry. If David Robertson is healthy, he will be on the roster, and possibly Marte if Girardi wants another lefty. Personally, I think Gaudin is more valuable in a 7-game series and he will be left off for the first round, but will be added for the ALCS should the Yankees reach that point.
--Yeah the title isn't a song, it's a movie, but I have practice in a half an hour so I have to make this quick. Besides it's the perfect headline considering it was basically the AAA Yankees beating up on the MLB Royals.

Tonight:
A.J. Burnett pitches tonight, so hopefully this will be a nice tune-up start for him before heading into the playoffs. But I know all Yankees fans are more interested in the doubleheader going on right now between the Twins and Tigers. As I type this the game is tied 1-1 in the top of the sixth. Tonight the pitching matchup is Brian Duensing vs Justin Verlander...I think I speak for all Yankee fans when I say we'd rather see the Twins win the Central. That's it for now.

SEE YA until tonight.
