Tigers 1 4 0

Yankees 2 5 1

WP: Chamberlain (5-2)
LP: Jackson (7-5)
S: Rivera (26)

PLAYER OF THE GAME: Joba Chamberlain. He struggled a bit early, but like CC yesterday, he eventually settled in and turned back to the Joba we all once loved. He went 6.2 giving up 3 hits 1 run and striking out 8.

PLAY OF THE GAME: Mark Teixeira's go-ahead solo home-run in the bottom of the sixth. It gave the Yankees the lead that they needed in order to win the game. It was also a shot into the second deck, as ar most of his home runs.

TURNING POINT OF THE GAME: When Joba Chamberlain got out of a first and third one out jam in the top half of the fifth inning. He go Miguel Cabrera to pop up and struck out Marcus Thames out released an emphatic fist pump that we haven't seen in a while.

GAME NOTES:

  • The Yankees now move within 1 game of the Red Sox after today's win. Sweeping a division leading team like the Tigers has got to be good for this team and shows they can beat winning ballclubs. Especially the last two games to come away with a low scoring one-run victory against two tough pitchers says alot about the Yankees pitchers and that the hitters are coming up with clutch hits late in the game.

  • A-Rod hit his 19th HR earlier in the game, the 572 in his career. It seemed like most of the offense the entire series was provided by A-Rod and Tex.

  • Phil Hughes once again pitched a scoreless inning, striking out two batters. Check out this stat on Hughes in the bullpen: He has thrown 16.2 consecutive scoreless innings, 21 K's. and a 0.84 overall ERA in relief.

Tommorow:
