Another Sweep for the Yanks

Wednesday, July 22, 2009

Orioles 4 9 0
Yankees 6 11 1

WP: AJ Burnett (9-4)
LP: Jason Berken (1-8)
S: Mariano Rivera (28)

PLAYER OF THE GAME: Jorge Posada. The catcher went 2-3 with 2 RBI's and 2 runs scored, while also helping Burnett pitch a gem.

PLAY OF THE GAME: Nick Swisher's play at the wall, TOTALLY REDEEMING himself for screwing up an easy fly ball earlier in the game. (Swisher actually made that reference during the postgame interview, so I can't take credit).

TURNING POINT OF THE GAME: Robinson Cano reaching on an infield single in the first inning with 2 outs. It should have been an error, but it wasn't so there you go. But a run scored on that play and two more runs scored after what should have been the third out, which proved to be the difference in the game.

GAME NOTES:
  • The Red Sox and Rangers play tonight at 8:05 pm tonight. Hopefully the Rangers can pull through with another win so the Yankees can take a 2 game lead over Boston.
  • Brett Gardner played well today, not wasting one of the few opportunities he's had in the past couple of weeks. The Melk Man seems to be struggling, so if Gardner gets hot, he'll play.
  • Burnett has been locked in lately. He is 4-0 in his last 5 starts with 26 strikeouts. In the last month, he has lowered his ERA by 0.50.
  • Bruney needs to get sorted out to be the fourth guy in the bullpen. Behind Mo, Hughes, and Coke, Bruney needs to be the guy.
TOMORROW:
A's @ Yankees, 7:05 PM
Mazzaro vs Sabathia
