Congrats to our old friend RandyJohnson

Thursday, June 4, 2009

Former Yankee Randy Johnson got his 300th career win today in a 5-1 victory over the Washington Nationals. Johnson allowed 1 unearned run in 6 IP, giving up 2 hits and striking out 2. Yankee fans will remember Johnson as the guy who shoved the camera man (hence the picture on the right) his first day as a Yankee, and also as a pitcher who seemed to underachieve during his time in New York. Clearly Johnson did not fit in with the Yankees, however, he is probably the best lefty pitcher of his era (The Steroid Era) and one of the most intimidating pitchers to take the mound. He is unquestionably a first ballot Hall of Famer.

PeteAbe shares some interesting stories of Randy Johnson I'm sure you'd enjoy.

OTHER NEWS AROUND THE LEAGUE:

  • David Ortiz is going to get his eyes checked. But don't worry Yankee fans, he said he can still see and is just doing this out of desperation.
  • Let the Matt Holliday trade rumors begin. I do not think the Yanks will go after him (especially for a rental) but I do know Mets fans would like to have him.
  • Cardinals manager Tony LaRussa is suing Twitter over a fake page of him. I wonder if Michael Kay will sue this guy.

Well that should be it for today folks. Enjoy the first game of the Lakers-Magic tonight. I say the Lakers win in 7. I don't know what Jim's prediction is.

UPDATE: Jim's prediction: I say Lakers in 6, but I'm rooting for the Magic, just because of how hilarious Stan Van Gundy is.

Remember to check us tommorow as we cover the Yankees vs Rays 7:05 p.m. ET.

See Ya!
